The 乔治亚医学院 is proud to provide an exciting opportunity, from one of our oldest healthcare pathway programs in the United States that begun in 1970 the 渗透 Pathway Program.
Our 渗透 Program, which is a six-week virtual program for students who are Georgia residents and are current enrolled high school juniors and seniors or recent graduates who have demonstrated academic excellence and expressed a passion towards a career in the medicine. This program has three levels: Pre-College, Intermediate College and Advanced College. Participants are assigned at level based on science prerequisite courses. Each track helps prepares students for a future career in the health sciences with an emphasis on medicine, through an extensive academic that includes courses in various biomedical sciences exposure, networking opportunities and guest speakers.
More than 2,300 students have participated in the program, with around 70% of the graduates going into health-related careers. According to a 2020 analysis completed, the direct impact of 渗透 on the economic health communities is estimated to be $146.9 million annually, supporting 33,315 jobs as well as direct and indirect tax revenue of $24.3 million and 95% of these impacts are in the state of Georgia.

高级媒体奥加拉 was walking the halls of Westside Comprehensive High School one day last month when
he noticed a flyer calling for young problem solvers to participate in a TED Talk
event. 奥加拉立即申请了。 Once accepted, he started researching and developing a
presentation following the theme “Breaking Barriers.” Ogala gave his speech on overcoming
the fentanyl crisis at the TEDxYouth Evans event on Sunday, March 3.
He decided to pursue the topic of fentanyl use after hearing a story that impacted him. “I heard about the story of a mother who lost her child to fentanyl overdose, and I was so shocked that something could kill somebody so quickly and that many people were unaware of these dangers,” said Ogala. “简单地说，我认为…… this fentanyl crisis disproportionately affects younger people. I feel like as a younger person, I have a duty to raise awareness about it because it is affecting people in similar age groups.”

However, researching and learning complex medical jargon for his TEDTalk was a new and challenging experience. “There were certain healthcare-related words that I did not know. I had to become familiar with my topic, and once I fully understood what the topic was about and the origins behind it, I was able to properly address it,” he said.
他花了几个星期的时间在ted演讲活动教练的帮助下完善他的演讲。 The coach reviewed the material and gave suggestions to help Ogala polish his words. He presented his speech along with thirteen young speakers from around the CSRA.
Ogala says the biggest takeaway from his TEDTalk experience is becoming a better speaker through a topic he quickly became passionate about. “I definitely want to become a better speaker, I want to raise more awareness about this crisis, and I just want to have a stronger voice and be engaged in my community,” he said.
After graduating high school, Ogala dreams of becoming a doctor to impact people’s lives positively. 他计划上奥古斯塔大学。 “I think that there are a lot of ways that I and others can help end the fentanyl crisis. Even after this speech, I will continue to work in this field,” he said.

This intensive online summer design is based on science prerequisite courses, led by our renowned and dedicated campus medical faculty to provide driven students who seek a career in medicine an opportunity build a successful foundation towards applying to medical school.
